The term "Engineering" in our industry refers to applications of wide format products within the Architectural, Engineering, and Mapping disciplines. These systems are also sometimes referred to as "plan copiers."
Engineering, wide format, plan copiers produce black and white output, up to 36" in width, imaging black toner on paper. Today's digital wide format solutions offer from one to up to 6 roll capacity and occasionally one can find a system with a cut sheet, cassette option.
Most of today's digital engineering, wide format printers and/or copiers output at least 400 dpi and many newer models produce 600 dpi output. Production speeds for end user models generally run from 4 to 6 "d" size drawings per minute while production speeds for reprographic provider solutions run up to 22 "d" size drawings per minute.
Many popular options exist on today's used digital wide format systems including the STF or scan to file option, PS or post script and PDF. Color scanning is another very popular option that we see requested more and more.
While several of the latest b&w models are capable of scanning in color, NONE of them can print in color. For that, one must interface a color printer such as an HP DesignJet Series printer or a Canon IPF Series.
"Single footprint" refers to an engineering, wide format copy/print/scan system that has the scanner incorporated into the printer design to minimize the space used. Usually the scanner is designed on top of the printer but some manufacturers have elected to simply place the scanner on top of the printer and let gravity do the rest.
Oce' was the last of the manufacturers to incorporate a single footprint design announcing their entry into this arena only this past April 2009 at the IRgA show.
The most popular b&w output devices, which are in high demand in the pre-owned marketplace, include brands such as Oce', Kip, Xerox (XES), Ricoh and Kyocera. We have organized our available inventory in this manner; follow the tabs to the right to peruse our available inventory.
